PLM consulting for PDM and PLM landscapes

In short

PLM consulting helps a company design its PDM and PLM landscape so that design, production and purchasing work from the same release state. We write PLM concepts, define how the EBOM becomes the MBOM, migrate CAD data and cleanse master data in SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault and 3DEXPERIENCE, billed at day rates.

We work out PDM and PLM concepts with your design, production and IT teams, define how the engineering BOM becomes the manufacturing BOM, migrate CAD data between systems and clean up master data, so every department works from the same release state.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PDM and PLM?

PDM manages CAD files, versions and release states, mostly inside engineering. PLM covers the whole product life cycle across departments, including change management, BOM structures and the link to ERP and production.

What does PLM consulting cover for a machine builder?

PLM consulting covers the decisions around product data: the data model and release process, the PDM or PLM system that fits, the structure of engineering and manufacturing BOMs, data migration and the quality of master data. Configuration and programming follow from these decisions. The work starts from sample assemblies and real orders of the company.

How long does a PDM migration take?

That depends on data volume, depth of history and the quality of the source data. We start with an analysis of the source data and a test migration, and plan the cut-over from there.

Which PDM system suits a company that designs in Solid Edge or SolidWorks?

SolidWorks PDM is built for SolidWorks and comes from the same vendor, so check-in, references and properties work directly from the CAD system. Solid Edge brings built-in data management with life cycle states such as In Work, Released and Obsolete, which suits teams working on file servers. Autodesk Vault is the counterpart for Inventor and AutoCAD. 3DEXPERIENCE with ENOVIA suits companies that need wider PLM functions or also work with CATIA. Mixed CAD environments need a check of how each PDM handles the other formats.
