Model checks for Solid Edge and SolidWorks, with Design Checker and your own rules
In short
SolidWorks Design Checker is an add-in in SolidWorks Professional and Premium that checks parts, assemblies and drawings against a standards file. In Solid Edge, the Geometry Inspector finds geometry faults. We add your company rules as custom checks in both systems, with AI that explains each finding and proposes a fix as a preview.

Errors in dimensions, materials or properties often surface at drawing release or in production. Built-in tools in Solid Edge and SolidWorks check settings and geometry faults, custom checks add your company rules, and the AI explains each finding and proposes a fix.

How it works
- 01
Collect and sort the rules
We go through your design guidelines, drawing standard and checklists and sort each rule as a setting for a built-in tool, a custom geometry check or a hint for the engineer.
- 02
Use the built-in tools
In Solid Edge, the Geometry Inspector finds geometry faults and small entities such as slivers. In SolidWorks, settings such as dimension style, fonts, materials and required properties go into a Design Checker standards file (.swstd), built by hand or learned from a released reference document.
- 03
Add custom checks
Rules that need the geometry, such as a 9 mm clearance hole for M8 per ISO 273, medium series, become custom checks. They run as add-ins on the Solid Edge API, as macros inside SolidWorks Design Checker or as iLogic rules in Inventor.
- 04
AI explains and proposes a fix
For each finding the AI names the feature and the rule, explains the deviation in plain words and prepares the fix as a preview. The engineer confirms it or justifies the deviation.
What you get
Rule catalogue
Your rules in one documented list, each with source, type of check and severity, plus the Design Checker standards file for SolidWorks.
Custom checks
Geometry and property checks as Solid Edge add-ins, as SolidWorks macros inside Design Checker and as iLogic rules for Inventor that can run when a file is saved.
Findings with explanation and fix
Every finding points to the feature, quotes the rule and, where the fix is clear, comes with a prepared correction as a preview.
Batch checks before release
Custom checks run over whole folders of Solid Edge or SolidWorks files. In SolidWorks, Task Scheduler also runs Design Checker in batch and writes a report per file.
Limits
The Geometry Inspector in Solid Edge checks only whether the geometry is valid. Design Checker is included only in SolidWorks Professional and Premium, and its built-in checks cover settings such as dimensions, fonts, materials and sketches. Company rules that relate geometry to each other, such as a hole matched to the screw size, need custom checks in both systems. Only rules that can be stated exactly become hard checks. Vague guidelines stay hints that an engineer judges. A check sees only what is in the model and replaces neither a strength calculation nor a design review.

Frequently asked questions
What does SolidWorks Design Checker check?
SolidWorks Design Checker compares parts, assemblies and drawings with a standards file (.swstd), for example dimension and arrow styles, fonts, units, materials, sketches and custom properties. The standards file is built with Build Checks or learned from an existing document with the Learn Checks Wizard. Failed checks are listed, and some can be corrected automatically. The add-in is part of SolidWorks Professional and Premium.
Can SolidWorks Design Checker run custom checks?
Yes. A custom check is a SolidWorks macro that is registered in Design Checker for parts, assemblies or drawings and reports pass or fail through the Design Checker API. The macro is saved with the standards file, so every user runs the same checks. This is how geometry rules such as clearance holes matched to the screw size are added.
How can design rules be checked automatically in Solid Edge?
Solid Edge brings the Geometry Inspector, which finds geometry faults and small entities, mainly in imported models. Company design rules, such as hole sizes, wall thickness or required properties, are added as programs or add-ins on the Solid Edge API that read the model and report each deviation. In Autodesk Inventor the same is done with iLogic rules.
What is the difference between rule-based model checks and AI-assisted checks in CAD?
Rule-based checks test measurable criteria and return the same result every time, for example ISO 273 clearance holes or a required material property. AI-assisted checks interpret guidelines written as text, relate them to the geometry and explain findings in plain words. Their results are hints that an engineer assesses. A robust setup uses fixed rules wherever a rule can be stated exactly.
